forever)īuy an office safe, which a thief might be able to lug out anyway.īuy a large safe, and then have it crash through the floor of my home office.īuy a large safe, keep it in the basement. Hide the USB thumb drive "someplace safe", which means I either forget where it is, or a family member finds, and overwrites it. This leads to a cascade of silly thoughts: I had thought of putting them on a USB drive, but then I would need to store the USB drive somewhere. That you for the reminder, and pointing this out to other people reading this post. If so have they encountered any problems that I should be aware of? Which means that using the encrypted folder does not appear to impact that feature. Selecting a previous version allows me to download that version. I am also able to use the contextual menu to select "browse previous versions" for a file. The files changes were synced pretty quickly. I modified some files on my desktop then remounted the encrypted share folder. The client on my desktop stopped syncing, as expected. I then went into the NAS on my admin account, and unmounted the encrypted drive. Repeated the process on my laptop, and now the everything is syncing as expected. When selecting the folder on the NAS, I went into Team Folder, and selected the encrypted folder. Using the client software, I selected a specific folder on my home directory to test the syncing with. On my desktop, I installed Synology Drive Client. Workaround: on my NAS admin account, I created an shared encrypted folder, and gave only my admin and my user account read / write permission. If they stole the NAS sitting right next to it, all of the files are not encrypted. If someone were to steal my desktop computer, all of the files are protected. It felt a little silly to have full disk encryption on desktop computer, and not on the NAS. However, I was concerned about encryption. One of the features I wanted to use with my Ds1618+ was file sync, so that I could keep my desktop computer and laptop synchronized. I am new to Synology wanted to get other's opinions / share something I have done.
